V. V. Ganeshananthan has been named the winner of the 2024 Carol Shields Prize for Fiction for her novel Brotherless Night. The award, which provides $150,000USD to the winner, is the largest English-language literary prize in the world for women and non-binary authors.

The Carol Shields Prize for Fiction has announced its second annual Shortlist of five fiction writers from Canada and the United States: Eleanor Catton (Birnam Wood), Claudia Dey (Daughter), Kim Coleman Foote (Coleman Hill), V. V. Ganeshananthan (Brotherless Night), and Janika Oza (A History of Burning).

The 2024 Longlist includes 9 authors from the United States and 6 authors from Canada, spanning novels, short story collections, and fiction in translation.
