An Evening with Canisia Lubrin in Toronto

We had a wonderful time celebrating 2025 Carol Shields Prize Winner Canisia Lubrin’s new poetry collection, The World After Rain: Anne’s Poem.

Canisia took the stage for a reading and conversation with acclaimed author Souvankham Thammavongsa following readings from the RBC / PEN Canada New Voices Award 2025 Winners, Georgio Russell & Anna Sokolova.

The conversation between Canisia and Souvankham spanned from the inspiration for the collection, to obsession in writing and creating, the use of humor, even in dark times, and the challenges and rewards of deeply personal subject matter.
